This week I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Sir Lenny Henry for MOBO TV as he unveiled the ‘Paving The Way’ stone in Buffery Park in Dudley. A prestigious award which celebrates the pioneering achievements and influences of talent from across the creative industries who are paving the way for future generations. As a known legend in British entertainment, this was an incredible moment for me, undoubtedly the biggest achievement of my career to date.

It was wonderful to hear how genuinely proud Sir Lenny is to come from Dudley, in the West Midlands. When MOBO founder, Kanya King asked Lenny where he would like to lay the ‘Paving the Way’ stone, Lenny didn’t hesitate in suggesting Buffery Park, as he has so many happy, childhood memories of growing up there.

When I asked Lenny about his recent knighthood and what impact he felt it would bring to the Diversity charge that he is leading, he said he hopes it will generate further awareness of the issue and speed up the process in achieving change.

“It’s not about baby steps. We are all adults, it’s time for big steps in achieving change.”
